Do This, Not That: Sneakers

There are times that it is completely impractical to wear heels, or even a nice flat. Sometimes a sneaker is the right way to go, but there are many types of sneaker out there, and don’t be fooled, not all types are appropriate for everyday use. Unless you are currently en-route to the gym, are exercising outside, or are required by your job, cross trainers and running shoes are not appropriate footwear.

They may be comfortable, but since shoes set the tone of your outfit and people base their first impressions largely off of appearance, gym shoes make you look completely clueless when it comes to fashion. Not to mention, if you are wearing a fabulously put together outfit and then pair it with worn out gym shoes, you’re going to look sloppy which translates to “I don’t care about my appearance,” which further translates to “I don’t care about my life.” So here is a Do This, Not That: Sneaker Edition:

Opt for something with a sleek, modern look. You can still be casual and look put together.

This look incorporates the pinks and oranges that are in right now, but a conservative top and navy blazer balance the look through contrast. A nude shoe elongates the legs while also keeping the focus on the clothes. Keep it casual for lunch, or dress it up with different accessories for date night or drinks with friends.

Do This, Not That: Boots

I know winter is technically almost over, but boots have become a year round thing.

Unfortunately, someone convinced a whole lot of people that certain types of boots are not only practical, but also stylish…let me put it this way, would you wear those penguin shaped bedroom slippers out to dinner at a nice restaurant? Then why would you wear your UGGs (knock offs included) anywhere that people could see you? The function of UGGs is keeping your tootsies warm as bedroom slippers, not real, outdoor footwear; hence the complete lack of arch support and style.

So,  I feel it’s kind of important to remind you of what you should and shouldn’t be putting on your feet when you plan to leave the privacy of your own home, unless you are okay with never being taken seriously.

Instead of opting for a shoe that has zero support, is difficult to walk in, and is just plain UGGly, opt for something that supports your foot and won’t give off the impression of adolescence or apathy towards your life.

Apathy translates to low self esteem on first impressions and clinging to teen trends past a certain age gives off an air of desperation. You can still be warm and toasty in a leather boot, even one with a heel! It’s called socks, layer them if you need extra warmth. You can still be comfortable in a leather boot, too. Well made shoes will form to the shape of your foot, making it feel as though there is nothing there.

And please, for the love of whatever deity you support, never, EVER, do this:

Style Sheet

Here’s a great casual look for running around town and doing errands, having a mid-day adventure, or even going to class and picking up the kids.

The pops of color mixed with the neutrals are great, but here’s how you can pull the entire look together:

A long necklace balances the high neckline of the top, a watch is just a great way to be practical and fashionable, and sunglasses don’t have to be expensive to look good.

Color Blocking for Spring

found from pinterest

Found from Zara (US). It's neutral, but I especially love the cut outs on the blouse.
